Meet Chet Baker who’s subdued and cool stage presence made him the 'James Dean of Jazz'.
Chet’s extraordinary talent with the trumpet and his fragile and captivating vocal style barely hid his offstage drug addiction and frequent brushes with the law.
Writer/performer David Goldthorpe explores through songs and narrative the haunting and unforgettable music that made Baker famous. Moving and confronting, the raw narrative looks at Chet Baker’s life, his success, his weaknesses and ultimately his demise and sudden death. The show is presented with a live trio of superb jazz musicians.
Featuring classic Chet Baker tunes My Funny Valentine, But Not For Me, Like Someone in Love, Autumn Leaves, Everything Happens to Me, My Ideal and lot's more.
"This is no impersonation of Baker, or boring chronology of his life, but an exceptionally well researched and written piece, professionally put together [...] this is a show for theatre-goers as well as jazz lovers" - Ewen Coleman, Dominion Post
"An extraordinary presentation that showcases musicianship and professionalism of the highest order [...] A five star evening's entertainment." - Amanda Jackson, Hawkes Bay Today
This mesmerising story and superb live jazz show is set in dark cabaret in two acts. Act 1 - the Story of Chet Baker and Act 2 - a fabulous jazz set featuring more of the music of Chet Baker and his contemporaries.
