Culture of China: Festival of Chinese New Year

The Wellington Chinese Community is proud to host the Culture of China, Festival of Chinese New Year, presented by the 45-strong Soldiers’ Acrobatic Troupe of the Guangzhou (China).  This amazing event integrates acrobatics, ballet, gymnastics and dance in a series of ethnic and martial spectacles. Magicians, unicyclists and a contortionist give added variety to an amazing two-hour high-energy show. The highlight is a special performance of “Oriental Swan”, created to showcase the skills of the troupe to international audiences. 

The Troupe’s acrobatics are characterised by technical difficulty, shocking risk, beauty of form, poignancy of execution and emotional impact.  Founded in 1951, the Troupe and its stars have won over 280 awards for its 141 piece repertoire.

The Troupe is touring Oceania as part of a cultural exchange and goodwill mission and in support of Chinese community.
