The Museum Hotel Season of Jan Preston's Life and Music of Winifred Atwell.

Come along for an uplifting afternoon of honky tonk piano and the story of Winifred Atwell in stylish cabaret.

Winifred Atwell -- known as the “Queen of the Ivories” -- was an icon in the 1950s in Australia and New Zealand. Jan’s intimate multi media show takes you on a journey through Winifred’s glowing career and gives insight into the real Winnie; her warm, generous, appealing personality, her tireless fund raising for children’s charities, the racism she endured and her great sense of humour and dignity, as well as bringing to life the sparkling piano music of her era.

After the bleak war years Winifred charmed audiences with her vibrant piano, her gently aristocratic personality, and a smile that was said to “light up a concert platform”.

Jan and her band perform sparkling live renditions of tunes such as The Black and White Rag, Harry Lime Theme, Bumble Boogie, while Jan tells the extraordinary life story of Winnie Atwell, accompanied by 150 photos of Winnie In NZ and Australia from the 1950’s and 60’s.

Jan known as “the Queen of Boogie piano” possesses a stunning ability as a boogie, honky tonk and ragtime piano player.  Her richly resonant voice and stage personality make this a joyful show. Jan has won 5 music, plays concerts and festivals in Europe and writes music for film, including most recently the score to her sister Gaylene Preston’s latest feature film, Home By Christmas.

This is a general admission show.  So come along early to secure your seats. You can then relax with your friends and enjoy tiffin (afternoon tea with a little drink) available for purchase during the afternoon.
