Macbeth

Date(s):
9 October 2010 - 16 October 2010
Venue:
St James

Verdi perfectly captures the bleak tragedy of Shakespeare’s most potent work in his operatic adaptation of Macbeth – the classic tale of ambition, corruption and bloody revenge.

Macbeth’s obsession with gaining the throne consumes him entirely so that by the time of his wife’s marvelously mad demise in Act IV, it barely registers in his head. He is in love all right, but it does not make for a happy ending.

In this Opera North production direct from the UK, Italian soprano Antonia Cifrone will sing Lady Macbeth with New Zealand-born bass Jud Arthur as Banquo. This compelling production is brought to the stage by internationally acclaimed director Tim Albery, and conducted by Guido Ajmone-Marsan.

With the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus and accompanied by the Vector Wellington Orchestra.
