It’s 11 o’clock in the morning in a council flat on the Walworth Road. In two hours’ time, as is normal, three Irish men will have consumed six cans of beer, 15 crackers with spreadable cheese and one oven-cooked chicken with a strange blue sauce. In two hours’ time, as is normal, five people will have been killed.’
Set on the 15th floor of a tower block on London’s Walworth Road, The Walworth Farce is a blend of madcap humour and the darker, deeper concerns pivotal to human existence. Winner of the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe First award in 2007, this “ferociously entertaining” production tells the story of a dangerously nostalgic father and the two sons caught up in his ludicrous yearnings for life in Ireland.
Written by multi-award-winning Irish playwright Enda Walsh, The Walworth Farce has enjoyed phenomenal success in Edinburgh, New York, London and Ireland.
The Walworth Farce is a perfect match for trailblazing Irish theatre company Druid. The talented cast effortlessly combines dramatic intensity with side-splitting hilarity to deliver this tender insight into what happens when we become trapped in the stories we tell ourselves about our lives.
