The Jimmy Summer Music Fest

Date(s):
9 February 2012 - 11 February 2012
Venue:
The Jimmy

It’s summer in the city and a time to have fun and enjoy some of Wellington’s best emerging talent in the Jimmy Café & Bar in the grand foyer of the St James Theatre.

The hugely popular Poppy Dust (9 Feb) was born out of Wellington's musical theatre scene, adding to the theatrical stage presence the band has become known for since their epic win in the 2010-11 New Zealand Battle of the Bands.  Their theatrics ensure they put on an unforgettable show.

Formed late 2009, The Velvet Regime (10 Feb) won 2nd Place at the Rockquest Wellington Regionals and opened up for Die!Die!Die, and got into the top 20, nationwide, out of over 800 bands.  With a new drummer (Jason Reder), and another guitarist (Stefan Poad), they write more songs, and play more gigs to support the recent release of their self-titled debut EP.

The Dunstan Rangers (11 Feb, 3pm) are back in The Jimmy.  Influenced by the great artists of alt-country music,  they were formed back in the early 80s by "homesick South Islanders marooned in the North Island".  The band has released two albums of their own songs - Unhugged and Second Life.  With strong harmonies, awesome guitars and subtle saxophone, their mix of classic songs and originals guarantees a great night out.

Balkan Brass Explosion (11 Feb, 7.30pm) is New Zealand’s premier Balkan brass band. This seven piece gypsy juggernaut have been detonating dance floors around the country, spreading the Balkan brass virus that has been sweeping the world. Wild rhythms and infectious melodies are injected with a killer dose of twisted gypsy jazz goodness!

Bar menu, prize draws and dance floor at all performances.
