A Welsh Choral Celebration at the Wellington Opera House
Welsh choral singing ……a team sport with two choirs!
The North American Welsh Choir shares the stage with the Wellington Male Voice Choir to celebrate the great Welsh past time – choral and community singing.
The 70-member North American Welsh Choir was founded in 1997 by choral conductor/singer Mari Morgan, 2009 recipient of the prestigious Welsh Heritage Medallion. Choristers from 18 United States and four Canadian provinces tour regularly and represent the Welsh voice internationally.
The Wellington Male Voice Choir was founded in 1961 and has performed under the direction of choirmaster/arranger Tom Humphries since 1981. It has competed at five New Zealand Festivals, and tours regularly, including Sydney in 2010. The Choir presents a range of music in two Subscription Concerts annually.
The programme features new and old favorites from Wales, Welsh North America and Welsh New Zealand. Sing along with the choirs and, together, raise the roof of the Opera House!
